Latest training to detect gum disease

The hygienist at Scottsdale Dental - Smile Designs, just returned from a seminar conducted by Planned Marketing Associates where hygienist and dentists were trained in the latest methods of detecting the early stages of gum disease and how to treat it non-surgically.

The hygienist trained in techniques of early treatment so as to make the patients' mouths healthy and help them to avoid contracting other systemic diseases. At the advanced hands-on clinical training course, hygienists also practiced the latest cleaning skills and received training related to the newest antibiotics to treat gum disease. Pat Worcester, who is the principal instructor at the seminar, has had 30 years of experience in practice as a hygienist and as a trainer.

Researches at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and State University of New York at Buffalo have discovered that there is a close relationship between gum disease, diabetes, pneumonia, and other systemic diseases.

The National Institute of Dental and Cranial Facial Research has announced support of an additional three-year, multi-million dollar study dedicated soley to identifying the link between periodontal disease and heart attacks. The initial research has made a significant change in the practice of dentistry. Hygienists and dentists in offices that are acquainted with this research are taking special care to identify any signs of gum disease.
